Wedang Ronde or Hot Ginger Tea with Peanut Ball
What make me miss my hometown is Wedang Ronde (Hot Ginger Tea with Peanut Ball). Usually almost every week when it's raining season, my mom would buy Wedang Ronde, Wedang Dongo or other kind of Wedang.

Wedang is Javanese language to call these hot drink. It can be tea, coffee or ginger tea or any drink that is hot enough to sweep these cold out from our body in raining season in Java.

Actually ginger tea (Wedang Jahe) is not a kind of tea, nor it is made from tea leaves. It is made from ginger and it is a cheap spice in Indonesia eventhough it is called exotic by western people.

Wedang Jahe can be found anywhere from hawker stall to restaurant. These hawkers will push a removable stall and selling these from house blocks to another area all days. The sound of spoon hitting porcelain bowl will immediately signal these students living in boarding house or office workers to go out to buy these Wedang or fried food or even vegetables sold by hawkers.

I tried a Wedang Ronde in chinese eateries, but these chinese always selling those hot peanut ball in a sugar water instead of ginger tea.

There are no Indonesian restaurant selling Wedang Ronde in Sydney. So I had to buy these frozen peanut balls in chinese groceries and cook these in boiled water until it is floating then add these into ginger tea (Jahe Wangi by Intra Brand) to enjoy my Wedang Ronde in here.

I tried to get a close up what inside these peanut balls, but my mobile camera would not give me a bright picture even though I already try these close-up and night mode with flash.

Wew...
ga doyan wedang rondhe, masalahnya aer jahenya itu yg pedes bgt, bikin kebakar di lidah, eventhough bola kacangnya enak sih.
Kalo aku biasanya ga pake aer jahenya tapi dicemilin aja tuh bola kacang, hehehehe...yummy ^^

gw justru kebalikannya si Retho, gw maniak wedang ronde tapi lebih suka gak pake bola nya :D kalo bolanya tanpa isi kacang gw masih mau deh, tapi kalo dah ada kacangnya, gw langsung gak doyan.

Gak tau kenapa deh gw maniak produk olahan jahe; permen jahe, teh jahe, kopi jahe, wedang jahe, semua gw doyan.

Yenny

Gw pernah iseng2 gigit jahe bulet2 yang dah gw kupas, maksud gw kalo rasanya enak kan lumayan kalo mau ngemil tinggal nelen jahe yang belon diolah... tapi sayang jahe mentah ternyata rasanya gak enak...huekkk... hehehhe...

Reth: Kirain lo ga suka yg bulet2 mirip2 bakso, ha ha..

Yenny: Kan ada permen ting2 jahe tuh yg pedes bener2 jahe. Mau crystallised ginger buatan sini?

NQN: That's not a new idea, it is common in Indonesia to eating those as an evening afternoon snack, just like britain people with tea and biscuit. Try it.
